Earth Day has never been more fashionable

Mar 30th 2023

Hello, fellow Earth lovers! It's that time of the year again! Earth Day 2023 is just around the corner, and we're excited to celebrate with you. As a non-profit, protecting the environment is a core value for us. We believe that every action we take towards sustainability and protecting the environment makes a difference.

Sustainable fashion has become a hot topic in recent years, and for good reason. Did you know that the fashion industry is the second-largest polluter in the world, right after the oil industry? That's a staggering fact. However, there's good news too. Sustainable fashion is gaining popularity, and people are becoming more aware of the impact their choices have on the environment.

Upcycling and DIY with thrifted fashion is a great way to express your creativity, save money, and reduce waste. By transforming pre-loved garments into something new, you can create unique and personalized pieces that reflect your style. Here are some ideas on how to turn your thrifted pieces into something special and one-of-a-kind:

  • Embellish: Jazz up a plain thrifted blouse or dress by adding some beading, sequins, or lace trim. You can use a glue gun or sew these embellishments onto the garment to make it your own.
  • Tie-Dye: Tie-dye is a fun and easy way to transform a plain t-shirt or dress into something entirely new to you
  • Crop it: Turn a long thrifted skirt or dress into a trendy crop top. Simply cut off the bottom of the garment, keep the edge raw or hem it for a more tailored look.
  • Patchwork: Use scraps of fabric or other thrifted garments to create a patchwork design on a jacket or pair of jeans. This technique adds a bohemian touch to any outfit and is a great way to repurpose fabric scraps.
  • Dip Dye: Dip-dyeing is another fun way to add color to a thrifted garment. You can use natural dyes or fabric dye to create an ombre effect or a bold color block design.
  • Embroidery: Add a personal touch to a thrifted denim jacket or shirt by embroidering your favorite design or quote onto the fabric. This DIY technique is easy to learn and adds a unique touch to any piece.
  • Applique: Use fabric scraps or thrifted patches to create a fun and playful design on a jacket or bag. This technique is a great way to repurpose old garments and create something new and exciting.

Upcycling and DIY with thrifted fashion is a great way to express your creativity and create one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect your unique style. With a little bit of imagination and some basic sewing skills, you can transform old garments into new and exciting designs. This Earth Day 2023, let’s get creative and celebrate sustainable style!
